Since 2018, I'm aiming to design fashion change as a co-founder of Fashion Changers, a community-driven, awarded platform with a focus on a more sustainable and just fashion system. In this pursuit Fashion Changers took various forms over the years and found different outlets to reach stakeholders – from a popular book to a digital membership to a conference to a podcast.
Through designing moments and spaces for mutual learning, connection and reflective discussions, i strive to co-create an understanding of fashion that centers collective responsibility as an integral part of innovation. Since the beginning, this project has been very non-linear in design, showing how transformations require unforeseeable iterations and are a space for learning for whoever pursues it.
Getting people on board
The aim of the book „Fashion Changers“ was to appeal to as many people as possible who are interested in fashion but may be new to the topic of sustainability. And to provide an overview: what is already out there? Who is working on fair and sustainable fashion? What does that look like? What are the essential things to know about the topic? In the book, we introduce many people who are driving change in the fashion industry with their brands, organizations, or projects, provide practical tips on how to consume more sustainably, and lay the foundation for understanding materials, environmental impacts, and working conditions. For us, this foundation also includes understanding that we are not only fashion consumers, but above all citizens. That's why, for example, tips on how to get involved also have a place in the book.
In this endeavor, Fashion Changers is also active on social media channels (mainly Instagram where new fashion trends are the daily content for many), provides background knowledge and inspiration via an online magazine and gives guidance in a Fair Fashion ABC for people looking to discover more sustainable brands.
Creating a space for professionals to learn and connect
Since 2020 the Fashion Changers Konferenz became an event for mutual learning and connection for fashion professionals. With yearly 200-300 attendees the conference created thousands of new connections, starting points for collaborative projects and very active, critical discussions. Every year, over 80 percent of participants say they now have ideas on how they can contribute to a positive transformation of the fashion industry. Read more on the conference at Textilwirtschaft
From 2022 to 2024 Fashion Changers also became a digital membership home for over 200 members with monthly meet-ups and content specifically tailored to professionals.
Collaborating with the industry
Fashion Changers seeks out conversation and collaboration with industry stakeholders. In 2025, the podcast The Fashion Stitch came to life through a collaboration with the international textile certification company Oeko-Tex®. In six episodes this podcast aims to get people to look behind the scenes of the fashion industry – from chemical use to labor safety measures to artistic approaches to deal with overproduction. Each collaboration like this also becomes a space for learning, discussions and an experiment in itself in the process of the production, e.g. how willing are different stakeholders to engage with critical positions within the industry?
Other collaborations with the industry also include a press release in support of living wages, published with the Bundesverband für Nachhaltige Wirtschaft e.V. or – on a smaller scale – the before mentioned Fair Fashion ABC where fashion brands can apply to be listed and face critical questions about their practices in the application process.
Collaborating with NGOs
Interested in a just and sustainable transformation of the fashion system, Fashion Changers fosters relationships to and works with various NGOs.
Style Cloud – Money-less clothing swaps in public libraries in Berlin in collaboration with the team of Fashion Revolution Germany e.V. (2025)
One-Earth Fashion report – consulting and editorial support for the Swiss NGO Public Eye (2024)
Good Clothes, Fair Pay – support of the European citizen campaign for living wages in the textile industry (2022)
#fairbylaw – petition for a German supply chain law (2019)
FEMNET e.V. – ongoing conversation and editorial collaboration. I'm also a member of this NGO that works on behalf of women in the fashion industry.

How slow is too slow? For this podcast episode a social impact fashion entrepreneur invited me to talk about fashion change (in German). It became a conversation about slow change, the motivation to keep going and how find hope when less people seem to care about sustainability and social justice in fashion.
Spreading the word
I regularly communicate this work in talks and workshops. In this role, I am particularly committed to
raising awareness of best practices in the industry, identifying common ground for industry players with sometimes conflicting interests in order to achieve sustainable transformation, and bringing topics such as holistic sustainability, intersectionality, and community building into spaces that tend to be more traditionally business-oriented. As a speaker, I spoke at textile trade fairs such as Innatex and Premium about how creative business models can save resources, and discussed with fashion students at educational institutions such as the London College of Fashion how collection-free, low-waste fashion labels can work.
